One of the most well known pick up trucks got a total redesign for 2005.  For 2007 the Ford F-150 pickup truck gets the addition of options and packages; a tire-pressure monitoring system now comes standard, a 5.4-liter E85 flexible fuel V8 is available, and power for the 4.6-liter V8 is increased.  Fuel economy range for the F-150 is 21 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg through the city.  There are a variety of trims, body types, and bed lengths available.  Regular-cab, SuperCab and SuperCrew body styles are offered. The F-150 is available in six distinct trim levels: XL, STX, XLT, FX2/FX4, Lariat, and King Ranch. The F-150 is enjoyable to drive well thanks to a nicely balanced suspension and well-designed, comfortable cabs. Properly equipped, a Ford F-150 can tow 10,500 pounds or haul more than 3,050 pounds in the bed.

F-150 Design

The design of the F-150 depends greatly on the trim level, as the different trim levels are quite distinctive. The F-150 gets a sharp downward drop in the forward part of the door windows, allowing a clear view of the massive outside mirrors. A high beltline gives the truck visual strength.  The front fascia wraps around to the fenders for a precise, sophisticated appearance. The bodyside and cargo box sheet metal is chiseled, though it looks slab-sided at the same time, a theme that carries through to the tailgate.F-150 is both upscale and utilitarian, a look that's very appealing.  To sum up the design of the F-150, it is crisp, bold, and sturdy.  F-150 grilles are trapezoidal. Both regular and SuperCab pickups can have a 6.5- or 8-foot cargo bed. Short beds are available with flared fenders, called Flareside. Regular cabs and SuperCabs have narr2007 Ford F-150ow rear-hinged back doors — called access panels — on both sides. They can't be opened unless the front doors are open.

2007 Cabin Features

The interior of the F-150, like the exterior, is different with every trim level.  The basic XL is nice for a base trim.  For the front seat either a 40/20/40-split three-place bench seat or dual captain's chairs can be installed. For more passenger space the SuperCab and SuperCrew models add a three-place rear seat. The backseat of the SuperCrew is roomy and suitable for adults.  The big difference in the back seats between SuperCrew and SuperCab models is rear legroom: 39.0 inches for SuperCrew, 32.7 inches for SuperCab. The rear seat bottom flips up for carrying cargo behind the front seats. As far as trims go the Lariat offers the most completely equipped pickup truck interiors around.  It comes with a long list of amenities, beautiful, rich wood trim, and metallic finishes on major panels. Interior layouts vary according to the series. On SuperCab and SuperCrew versions, a modular overhead rail system can hold a DVD player and other components.

Ford F-150 Powertrain

Engines for the 2007 F-150 include a 4.2-liter V6, a 4.6-liter V8, and a 5.4-liter V8.The V6 offers a choice of four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission.  The 4.6-liter V8 comes standard in the popular models.  Both V8s come with four-speed automatic transmissions.  For 2007, a new flexible fuel version of the 5.4-liter V-8 engine that can run on E85 is optional.   The smaller, 4.6-liter Triton V8 features aluminum overhead-cam heads, but with a more conventional two valves per cylinder. Upgraded to 248 horsepower for 2007, the 4.6-liter V8 offers a broad torque band, with 90 percent of its peak torque available at just 2000 rpm for strong towing performance and solid acceleration when hauling heavy loads.
The 4.2-liter V6 is an attractive option for work trucks.

Driving the F-150

The newer version of the F-150 has a heavier, more solid feel. The suspensions handles bumps with ease, the ride is smooth and firm, with a minimum of body roll in corners, and a nice, plush ride over cobbled pavement, rutted dirt roads, and freeway slabs. Brakes are smooth and responsive. All F-150s come with four-wheel vented disc brakes and ABS.  The 5.4-liter V-8 produces quicker acceleration than the 4.6-liter, though neither engine is phenomenal.

2007 Lineup

The 2007 Ford F-150 is available in six distinct trim levels: XL, STX, XLT, FX2/FX4, Lariat, and King Ranch.
The XL is the budget-priced F-150 with a work-truck interior: vinyl-covered 40/20/40 bench seats with manually adjustable lumbar support for the driver, black vinyl floor covering, and an all-plastic dashboard housing a basic AM/FM radio.

The STX is sportier than the XL, with body-color bumpers and body-color trim for its black grille, and 17-inch cast aluminum wheels. Cloth seats, air conditioning, and a CD player with an auxiliary audio input jack come standard.

The XLT is the most popular model, nicer and better-equipped than XL or STX. It comes with chrome bumpers and a chrome-trimmed black honeycomb grille that set it apart from the other models.  Carpeting is standard, as is premium cloth upholstery on the standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs. The XLT instrument panel gets more flash than either the XL or STX dash.

The FX4 is a special off-road model. The interior features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a floor shifter, chrome accents, and black rubber off-road floor mats; while the exterior is distinguished by a unique bar-style grille, wheel-lip moldings highlighting 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and body-color or Dark Shadow Gray bumpers, depending on paint choice.
