The Focus represents Ford’s base level sedan, and although it was known for quality problems early on, the Focus has been reworked and improved for 2007.  The Focus is a vehicle that you can count on to be easy on the wallet, yet still stylish, it is actually fun to drive, and over the years has become more reliable.   The Ford Focus was first rolled out in 2000, and it quickly became Ford's top-selling passenger car.  There are a variety of bodies for the Focus; the ZX3 two-door hatchback, ZX5 four-door hatchback, ZX4 sedan and ZXW wagon. There are three trims available; the entry-level S, the midrange SE and the upscale SES. The Ford Focus is a carryover from 2006.  For this model year the Ford Focus has two new exterior colors, Kiwi Green and Aqua Blue, leather-trimmed sport seats and an Interior Upgrade Package.  The Focus’ selling points are it inexpensive sticker and it wide variety of styles and options, making it more appealing t a wide range of people.

Focus Power

For 2007 power, all models but the ZX4 ST come standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. In California, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine, the Focus comes standard with a super-clean, 130-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder.  These models are paired with a five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. The ZX4 ST comes with a 151-horsepower 2.3-liter four-cylinder.  Also the ZX4 ST Sedan only has a manual gearbox and has a performance-tuned exhaust system. The ST's 151-horsepower, 2.3-liter four-cylinder exceeds the standard for Ultra Low Emissions Vehicles.  And2007 Ford Focus overall, the models carrying the 2.0 V4 get excellent mileage too.

Driving the Ford Focus

The Ford Focus ZX4 ST sedan rides on a performance-oriented suspension. For the ZX4 ST Ford borrowed suspension pieces from the European-market Focus and the 2004 Focus SVT to give the ZX4 ST sharper handling. The manual-shift ZX3 accelerates eagerly from a standstill and is quite confident for passing and merging. Focus hatchbacks offer more room, yet they are still very maneuverable, even are fun to drive, at least for this type of vehicle. The ride on the 2007 Focus is cushy and going over bumps is a breeze. Despite thick pillars, the long side glass helps visibility in the hatchback. Front-seat headroom is huge.
The higher horsepower engine in the Focus ZX4 ST delivers a strong acceleration performance and cruised easily on the highway. The one issue with the Ford Focus is engine noise, especially while cruising on the highway.

2007 Focus Design

The Ford Focus is a mid sized sedan with a basic, but somehow stylish, design.  The front end of the Focus looks like the larger Five Hundred sedan. At 168.5 inches long overall, Focus hatchbacks are nearly 7 inches shorter than the Honda Civic sedan and 10 inches shorter than Toyota's Corolla. Focus sedans measure 175.2 inches.  The front of the Focus gets headlamps with clear lenses, and a grille with a diamond pattern. There are also round fog lamps and the fascia has a wide, low air intake. S and SE models get 15-inch tires, while the SES gets 16-inch alloy wheels. The ST gets unique 16-inch machined-alloy wheels and all-disc brakes.

Ford Focus Interior

Inside the Focus

The Focus has an interior of clean lines, traditional setup, and medium quality materials.  All Focus models have a CD/MP3 player, and the optional six-CD changer adds steering-wheel controls. The instrument panel is symmetrical with the driver and passenger areas divided by two rectangular climate control registers, the hazard switch and a shallow center stack for the audio and climate controls. Sitting in the Focus feels like you are up high, and this echoes the overall tall interior design.  It is easy to get in and out of the Focus because of extra wide doors.  The Focus has plenty of room for five people, and actually beats out much of the competition in overall cabin size.  New sport seats with leather seating surfaces and contrasting leather inserts are available on the ST sedan as well as the SE and SES models for the first time this year.  There are many packages which give upgrades to the interior, such as the Interior Upgrade Package and the Street Appearance Package.

Focus Wagon

The Focus Wagon is different from the other models in that it is an entirely different shape, and of course it offers more cargo and passenger room.  At 178.4 inches long overall, the Focus Wagon is nearly a foot longer than Focus hatchbacks. Wagon models have 73.1 cubic feet of cargo capacity when the seats are folded down and 35.2 cubic feet with the rear 2007 Ford Focusseats up. This is a perfect vehicle for a family who needs just a little bit more room than a sedan offers.

Safety Features

All Focus models get standard safety features which include second-generation front airbags, child safety seat attachments, and child locks on the rear doors. There are also available safety options; side-impact airbags, anti-lock brakes and traction control.

To sum up the 2007 Ford Focus is simple; it is inexpensive, stylish, practical and fun. There are several models to choose from, from the basic sedan, the roomier wagon, and the higher performing ZX4. Refused to be taken down from quality issues of the past, the 2007 Focus is reliable and rejuvenated as a Ford sedan with a lot of quality to offer.
