The 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid has been claimed to be the best gasoline-electric hybrid yet. Furthermore, Ford had claimed that their new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient midsize car in the United States.   The Fusion Hybrid is an already accomplished sedan and it’s got the industry's smoothest, best-integrated gas-electric power system.  Ford launched Fusion as a gasoline-only car in 2005 as a 2006 model.  The 2010 Ford Fusion's has a starting MSRP of $28,000; it drives with confidence and has an impressive cabin.   The hybrid cost 3,295 more than most similar gas model. With all factory options the Fusion hybrid is $32,435.  The Fusion hybrid will go head to head with the industry’s top hybrids, including the Toyota Prius and the Toyota Camry hybrid.  And according to predictions, the Fusion hybrid will more than hold its place.  The 2010 Fusion hybrid is made at the Ford plant in Hermosillo, Mexico.

Driving the Fusion hybrid

The Fusion hybrid drives better than its competitors.  The turning circle is 2 feet narrower than in past model of the conventional Fusion. No more back-and-forth getting into or out of a tight parking spot.   The change makes the car feel more nimble overall.   One of the Fusion hybrids greatest benefit in driving is that when the engine transfers from all electric to gasoline there is absolutely no  vibration or shimmying No other hybrid — not even that $107,000 Lexus — can make that claim 100% of the time.  In fact, Fusion's main rivals, Camry and Nissan Altima hybrids, shake a lot when their gasoline engines kick in, Altima especially.  Although the hybrid has an EPA rating of 41 mpg, real life driving is more like 35 mpg, still impressive for a 3,720-pound midsizer.  It is rated 36 on the highway and 39 in combined driving

Ford Fusion Design

The hood on the Fusion has a wide, demi-dome bulge, and the grille and rump are tweaked a bit. It has the same tri-bar chrome grille, which is bigger and more distinctive than the one on the outgoing Fusion. Fusion hybrid is 190.6 inches long, 72.2 in. wide, 56.9 in. tall on a 107.4-in. wheelbase. The 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid vehicle has a newly designed front end with new headlamps to further enhance visibility. The new Fusion Hybrid looks very similar to the recentFusion Hybridly updated gasoline driven Fusion.  It's a rather aggressive look overall, but at the same time is somehow easy to like. The Fusion Hybrid does have some unique badging on the hybrid the front doors and trunklid, plus special 17-inch wheels.

2010 Hybrid Power

The basic four-cylinder gasoline engine is a 2.5-liter, up from a 2.3-liter in previous Fusions. The electric motor delivers more crank than you get from the gas engines in most small cars.  Ford’s trick in its refined driving: using the engine's electronic controls to halt the gasoline engine just at the point in the crankshaft rotation where a cylinder is ready to fire again.  You can hear distant shudder when the Fusion's gasoline engine restarted after stopping at a red light, as all hybrids do to save fuel. But it was milder than in any other hybrid tested.  The electric motor gets 106 hp at 6,500 rpm, 166 lbs.-ft. the moment it begins to turn (an appealing attribute of electric motors). Ford says net combined hp is 191.  Continuously variable automatic transmission blends power from the gas, electric powerplants.

Inside the Fusion

One great thing about the Fusion hybrid is the way information on the instrument panel is delivered. You can pick how much hybrid-related data you want on the instrument panel. Regardless of how much you ask for, Fusion delivers it informatively, and no point is it overwhelming as other hybrids information centers are.  The SmartGauge, Fusion’s system of LCD monitors flanking the speedometer, help improve driving and mileage even more.  The screens show a variety of data, including when you are driving at an optimal way to sa2009 Fusion Hybridve on fuel. The seat fabric in the Fusion Hybrid is made from recycled materials.   A lot comes standard on the 2009 hybrid, including stability and traction controls and power accessories, plus free six-month satellite radio service (Sirius), 110-volt outlet, six-CD stereo (instead of the typical single setup), dual-zone climate control, auto on-off headlights, auto-dimming mirror, backup alarm. A pretty good list for a base level vehicle.  The Fusion hybrid is on the small end of the midsize scale. It is fractionally bigger outside than Toyota Camry hybrid, slightly smaller inside, but it has a bigger trunk.  Passenger space is listed as 99.8 cubic feet, trunk as 11.8 cu. ft.

Summary

The 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid is a slick vehicle all in itself, without even considering its hybrid power; it has smooth looks, good road manners, adequate cabin space, and comfortable accommodations. Standard safety features include all-disc antilock brakes, side-impact airbags for the front seats, side curtain airbags, a driver's knee airbag and an electronic stability system.  View a review of the Fusion Hybrid in USA Today.  The Fusion hybrid powertrain system combines the best attributes of a gasoline engine and electric battery-driven cars to deliver optimal fuel economy.
