Proper Maintenance and Smart Driving Maintains Value

Getting an oil change from the experts at Dewey Ford will ensure optimum operation, reliability and safety, prevent unexpected failures, maximize fuel efficiency, and possibly even improve trade-in or resale values. By being aware of potential problem signs on your Ford you are extending the life of your vehicle. Furthermore, by driving smart, you will lessen the need for repair.  Whether you have a Ford Mustang, or a Ford Explorer family vehicle, always treat your car with respect. Burning out of every stop and slamming your brakes into every stop takes a toll on your car. The occasional speed-shift and panic stop isn't going to hurt anything but a constant 'extreme' driving will take away from potential drive time while greatly adding to vehicle down time. The Importance of Routine Oil Changes

When starting your car up, the engine is cold and void of oil in its moving parts. It takes only a few seconds after start-up for the oil pump to adequately lubricate an engine. During those few seconds, however, is when you should keep engine RPMs down to a minimum. Give the engine at least 30 second before popping it in gear and roaring off. If you drive your vehicle like you want it to last, then it likely will. But it is also very important to get an oil change for your Ford at regular intervals. Engine oil lubricates and protects the components in your engine. Without it, the metal-on-metal contact that results can severely damage your vehicle's engine. If dirt or other particles build up in the oil, they can scratch or damage vital components.

See your Ford Owner Manual for specific information, but as a general rule you should plan to schedule an oil change every 5,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first. However, if you tow or carry heavy loads, idle or drive at low speeds for long distances on a regular basis, drive in dusty conditions, drive off-road frequently, or if you use E85 fuel more than 50% of the time, then in general an oil change every 3,000 miles or every three months would recommended.  Visit our Dewey Ford service center for more information!
